Backs Turned
The city of lights is burning down in fear
I’m wondering what I am doing here
I take a deep breath and I glance around
I hope that it all burns down to the ground.
So many faces rising to the top
But every one of them’s got the same
old stuff
And it just don’t seem fair to me
God dammit, you got it so easily.
We got our backs turned on the radio
Tryin’ get it heard, “Hey-oh,
Hey-oh, Hey-oh”
The flames are rising faster than you know
The only cure lies here in my microphone
I’m tryin’ to save this town
I call my home
From the destruction that just comes and
goes.
Even when you scream my name
To them it’s got nothing to do with
fame
It’s just a shame to see them pass
you by
When you know that you could have saved
their life.
Streets Of Paris
There was a fine young vendor, selling
hearts for smiles.
His mind had been washed away in his flood
of trials.
Oh so sly and cunning, no one could refuse
There’d been too many wins, not a
chance he’d lose.
They say this is the city of- romance.
I wasn’t looking for love ‘til
I saw you.
Nothing I was thinking of ‘til you
came into view.
But now you’ve changed everything.
A master salesman, up until one day:
She walked right in the door, took his
breath away.
She asked him for the price, he tried to
reply.
This once acclaimed young linguist
St-stuttered out a lie.
All she’d need was one. One glance.
There you were just standing there
Ignoring my mesmerized stare.
I never believed in love at first sight;
Until I was struck that night.
A Toast To Me
Stand clear of flying
objects, you don’t wanna break your head.
Sit and stare at the
ceiling, wish I had just stayed in bed.
She screamed from the
top of her lungs, “Hey, Hey, You gotta get outta here!”
Well fuck that, no
time to react, just time to disappear.
Everyone sees it, even
you and I.
And it sure seems fit,
to flee from this site.
The wreckage is devastating,
the bones are piled high.
Instead of withering,
let’s bring down the sky.
Got my bags packed,
got my shoes strapped, check out at the door.
I look at your face
again, soon I won’t have to no more.
She said “it’s
time to go…” Hey fine! I’ll get outta here.
So I turn to leave
right then after one last shot of fear.
Well that was that,
my escape is now.
Matter of fact, you
won’t bring me down.
I said enough of that,
you can’t bring me down.
Got me on track but
I’m not buying it.
No I’m not gonna
take this no more. I’m not gonna take this no more.
The
Lonely People
I saw a man get up
and leave.
To where he went, I
did not see.
All I know is he was
alone
And so he would stay
all the way home.
No one to meet, no
one to greet;
No place to go and
no place to be.
Just fragile minutes
spent pacing along
Counting his footsteps
and humming this song.
The lonely people gather
here,
Their backs against
November air.
Come one, Come all;
to see them cry.
Another one who’s
suffering
But to him friends
are fluttering.
A beautiful house,
a lovely wife;
Oh how he hates his
fucking life.
Nothing is real, everything’s
so plain-
He thinks he’s
gonna be insane.
But tonight he’ll
hold it all inside
As thoughts of hope
start to die.
Nothing
Is As It Seems
So I get the guitar
strumming.
There’s a bird
up on my shoulder.
He’s telling
lies to me;
Says, “You’re
not getting older, no.”
So I ask him one more
thing.
But that birdie flew
away.
Even thought the stakes
were high.
So I went up to a friend.
Yeah, and asked the
same damn thing.
He said, “I’m
sorry I can’t help you;
But I know a song that
you can sing.”
Nothing is as it seems.
So my heartbeat started
pounding
As I walk up to the
door.
They said that you’re
not home now;
HA! Well I’ve
heard that lie before.
Can’t you see
me I’m outside now?
I see you behind the
blinds.
You’ll never
change your ways, girl.
So I’ve finally
changed my mind.
You sit here waiting
for the call.
It might not even come
at all.
You sit here waiting
by the door.
I wonder what you’re
waiting for.
Nothing is as it seems.
Angel Of
The Night
Dear you, I cry out
in your name.
Of how you’ve
tried me so hard
In this vampirical
state.
It’s making me
insane.
Playing your little
games of tyrannical reign.
My cursed soul makes
me want to scream.
We’re alone together
trapped inside this cage.
The cage built in our
mind, forcing constant rage.
Say hello, when I scream
goodbye.
And don’t stare
blindly at the angel of the night.
Deception, deceit,
from a man in green.
Who’s hidden
powers of which I cling.
Haunts my mind every
bit of the day-
These nineteen hours
I stay awake.
Catch a bullet or break
a life.
Cries from those drowning
in their strife
With eyes so glaring
and thoughts so wild,
You can’t hide
behind a smile.
The Stars
and The Sea
The hour hand taunts
her by twirling on by.
It’s a constant
reminder of her wasted time.
Too much of the same
thing can be a bad thing.
And she’s drowning
out her time with me.
With our cheap thrills
causing creep chills.
Ah, this is the life
for me.
She sang out! Yeah
she rang out!
“The stars and
the sea revolutionize me!”
Hours become days,
which end up as years.
Wanting life to decay,
she’ll finally escape.
Long since hoped to
sail away.
To see the waves and
change her name.
Leaving behind that
bitch for the grave.
The sun sets on her
old ways.
Roseblood
A rose, glistening
with love, speckled dew across it’s back.
Elegant as white gloves
upon a hand that’s hacked.
Beautiful as anything
I’ve ever known.
A wilted rose leaves
such disappointment.
As pessimism runs through
veins of hope and joy.
Turning them to blood
of hate.
Leaving behind a chance
to ever love again.
An oak, powerful and
strong.
With outstretched arms
to guide me to the life I’ve waited for so long.
Mighty as the soldier
to be-
Prepared to fight or
die at any word.
A willow, weeping in
desperation.
Trying to remove the
past from it’s painful desolation.
Like something we can’t
grasp
It’s just out
of reach from our very lives.
That wilted rose bled
out in disappointment.
Filling veins back
up with hope and joy.
Draining out that blood
of hate.
Leaving behind the
chance to love again.
Hey
Mama (Send The Love)
Hey Mama, stop your
crying.
Stop your crying now.
Heard the news, your
boys are dieing.
Those boys are dieing
now.
Send the love all across
the world.
Hey Papa, where your
children?
Where are those children
now?
Gone away to a brave
new place.
A brand new home now.
Send the love all across
the world.
Send the love to every
boy and girl.
A shot rang out through
the meadow
To pierce the heart
of peace.
It’s easy to
get mixed up when your life is run by greed.
Stand Together
Mister Shoeshine and
his piano sang into the night.
With wondrous tales
and epic battles, dancing in their minds.
“We clashed and
toiled with those soldiers and their sinking sails!
We ran across those
flowing mountains; eaten by a whale!”
As time just tuckered
on by, I could finally see
We were really trapped
out here, fermented by the sea.
When we finally ventured
home, it was a parted place.
We preached a song
to lift this spirits, to unify the day.
And we all stand together,
fighting through the night!
And we all stand together!
